The major German connector manufacturers have for some time been pushing a division that deals with e-mobility. This often results in subsidiaries. This also applies to Weidmüller.

Weidmüller Mobility Concepts, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Weidmüller Group, has now acquired 25.1% of Paderborner wallbe GmbH. Previous owner was enercity, the AG holds further shares.

The complete provider of e-mobility charging solutions wallbe manufactures charging stations for electric vehicles, offers customers cloud-based operating services and develops intelligent payment and billing functions. The company started several years ago as a start-up in Schlangen and generated sales of 5.2 million euros in 2018. The company employs around 50 people. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Klaus Holterhoff, Managing Director of Weidmüller Mobility Concepts, comments: "Together with wallbe and enercity, we will further develop innovative solutions for charging infrastructure in Europe. To this end, we will contribute our grown competence in direct current technology, solutions for the Internet of Things as well as product management, development and electrotechnical manufacturing. Together, we want to help shape the future of electromobility with safe charging pillar technology that complies with legal metrology requirements."

Dr. Susanna Zapreva, CEO of enercity AG adds: "In the course of the further strategic orientation of wallbe we have gained Weidmüller Mobility Concepts, a shareholder with proven competence in the field of industrial technology. Due to the competence of the newly composed circle of shareholders, wallbe is very well positioned to assert itself in the strongly growing market of e-mobility".

Dr. Dominik Freund, Managing Director at wallbe adds: "With the entry of Weidmüller Mobility Concepts we continue our success story as a pioneer for innovative solutions for charging infrastructure in Europe. We are delighted to be part of this strong team."
